Default Should I Keep Artifacts?

I have acquired three kinds of artifacts and I am wondering what they are for and should I keep them or sell them. They are Flame, Storm, and Frost artifacts. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Porthos

Yowsa! The more folks help me the less I know!

I'm not sure what you mean by "off-hand items".

I'm guessing that "just flog em" means sell them.

As for "skin is kinda...meh" I have no idea what you mean!

Offhand items are things that are carried in the character's left hand. The same place where a warrior or paragon would carry a shield (of course other professions can use shields, these are just the most common).

A focus item like a Flame Artifact will give the character extra energy, reduce casting or recharge times, et cetera. So these things are going to be most useful for casting classes. So for example, an elementalist may choose to use a wand and offhand item. Or may choose to use a staff (note that you can equip an offhand item when using a staff, but you won't get the benefit of the offhand item).

Based on the W/ listed in your profile, the artifacts are not going to be very useful for you and you'll probably want to stick to using a shield.

The "skin" of an item is simply referring to its appearance. A fair bit of the weapons chosen are based solely on appearance, since getting max level weapons is pretty simple. For instance, compare the looks of a Flame artifact to the looks of a Paper Lantern. They're both based on Fire Magic, but one looks different (which looks better is, of course, personal opinion).

In guildwars you can equip 2 items, or 1 two handed item. For wars, u can have a sword and shield, an axe and shield, or a hammer. For caster classes, like necromacers, mesmers, ritualists or elementalists, you can either have a staff, or a wand and "off-hand". For elementalists, you can have an off-hand for water magic, fire magic, air magic, or earth magic. THose artifacts are offhands. You can sell them to merchant unless they are either gold and/or have a requirement of 8 or 7.

Most likely those are not golds, as you probably cannot get them(although not unheard of) early in campaigns. Thus, you should probably sell them to merchant. If you ever get a gold, DO NOT identify it with and Identification Kit(sold at merchant) just yet. Instead, equip it and observe your energy/health, if energy increases by 5 or health by 30 (assuming you don't have weapon/offhand upgrades that give you health/energy bonuses), then identify and keep them. Otherwise sell it to players for 700g. There are other mods worth keeping, but is much harder to test...

Sorry that last part may have confused you maybe someone else can clarify :P

ill try to clarify what ^ said on the last part. when an item is unidentified you cant see what benefits it give, but if you equip it certain things you can see like if your health increases or your energy increases. things like if its sundering( chance to ignore a % of armor up to 20%) is much harder to see.

if you equip a shield and it give you +30 health on your health bar then it has a +30 health mod and +30 mods are considered the best all around. so you should identify it and keep it, if however it doesnt do this( keep in mind this is only for shields other items are different stories) you can leave it unidentified and then sell them to another player for 700g.
